CEO imprisoned for contempt of court: Michael Thomson, the former Chief Executive Officer of the now-defunct investment firm London Capital & Finance Plc (LCF), along with his wife Debbie Thomson, has been sentenced following a Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigation. The couple was found guilty of unlawfully selling luxury items, including horse saddles and a hot tub, despite existing legal restraints. Michael Thomson received a six-month prison term, while his wife, Debbie, received a six-month suspended sentence, valid for two years. The judge stated that their actions constituted a significant affront to the justice system. Thomson admitted to recklessly violating an SFO restraint order on two occasions, while Debbie admitted to four breaches by accepting a £2,000 holiday refund and selling restricted items valued at nearly £5,800. At the time of this misconduct, Mr. Thomson was already serving a suspended sentence for a prior infraction. He had transferred £95,000 to his wife in an attempt to hide assets from investigators. The restraints on Mr. Thomson's assets were established to safeguard them during an ongoing SFO investigation into potential fraud and money laundering involving LCF. To date, investigators have indicated that the Thomsons' actions have led to the dissipation of over £100,000 in assets. The SFO is actively investigating the LCF scandal, where 11,000 investors lost over £237 million between 2014 and 2019 due to the firm’s sudden collapse.
