UK Urges Welsh Groups to Join Veteran Support Network Now

Veteran support networks are set to benefit around 115,000 veterans in Wales through VALOUR, a newly established network of recognized centers that will streamline access to essential services such as health, housing, and employment support. The Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) within the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has allocated £13 million to 14 organizations to participate in the UK-wide VALOUR initiative. Additionally, the OVA is encouraging more Welsh organizations to apply for new funding to join this important veteran support network. UK Government ministers are urging existing veteran support centers, voluntary organizations, and local councils to seek funding between £200,000 and £1 million this spring to become part of the VALOUR system. One organization benefiting from this funding is Bulldogs Boxing and Community Activities, based in Baglan, Neath Port Talbot, which offers sports and community activities tailored for veterans. During a visit to the center on May 14, Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens underscored the significance of such support for local veterans. "We have around 115,000 veterans in Wales, and they all deserve excellent support," said Jo Stevens. "Organizations like Bulldogs Boxing in Port Talbot already provide outstanding services to our veterans. By opening up additional funding, we aim to enhance this support further and encourage more organizations to apply." She emphasized the necessity for Welsh veterans to have local access to appropriate assistance, a goal the UK Government aims to achieve through initiatives like the VALOUR veteran support network. Beyond the VALOUR-recognized centers, the comprehensive £50 million VALOUR system will feature a headquarters at the OVA, field officers dedicated to developing local networks, increased capacity for MOD Veterans Services, and an online support platform. This collaborative system is designed to share data and strengthen connections between the UK Government, councils, voluntary organizations, and service providers. The UK Government is committing unprecedented funds to support veterans, reaffirming its dedication through a 10-year Veterans Strategy.
