What Types of Permits are Commonly Issued?

The Cypriot government commonly issues the following travel permits:

  • Group visasTransit visas
  • Long-stay visas
  • Short-stay visas

Individuals traveling as a group

Individuals with intentions of visiting Cyprus or transit through Cypriot territory need visas. It could be a visa used to transit through Cyprus or a visa with a validity of 30 days. Note that individuals traveling as a group must arrive, spend time, and depart the Cypriot territory the same way they came.

For transit purposes

This travel permit allows you to enter and stay on Cypriot lands for a maximum duration of 5 days, after Which you’re expected to carry on with your trip to a third country. To be able to obtain this permit, it is required that you show papers such as flight tickets to your next destination. Furthermore, you must provide evidence that your travel route indeed demands that you make a brief stop on Cypriot territory.

Long validity period

Persons with intentions of living in Cyprus for more than three months have this visa issued to them. The reasons for a visit could range from business-related activities to work and or education.

Short Validity period

For individuals seeking to stay in Cyprus for less than three months, a visa with short validity is given. This visa enables you to visit Cyprus once or multiple times for up to 6 months in a year. A single-entry visa allows you to spend a total of 3 months in Cyprus. On the other hand, a multiple entry visa permits you to visit Cyprus for up to 6 months within a one-year duration. However, you have to spend three months in Cyprus within a 6-month window, after which you have to leave before possibly returning.

For Airport Transit purposes

Much like the regular transit visa, the airport transit visa permits touchdown at a Cypriot airport before moving on to a third country. However, here you don’t spend time in Cypriot cities. You are only allowed to visit the international transit area of Cypriot to continue your journey.

Cyprus Visa Application Procedure

The procedures and requirements for a visa application depend on your purpose of visit. Here, we’ll talk about several visa categories, stating the processes involved and the paperwork required for a successful application.

Individuals staying for a short period

  • Download an Application Form and fill it appropriately before submitting it in person.   • Individuals visiting Cyprus to reunite with family members or see a friend must provide a letter of invitation from their host. A Form of Assumption of Responsibility must be filled and signed by the person hosting you.

  • You must provide proof, such as bank statements that show you have sufficient funds to cover your financial needs during your entire stay in the country.

Individuals staying for an extended period

To be granted residency in Cyprus, one has to meet specific requirements. There are several categories individuals hoping to get long-stay permits in Cyprus can apply under. They are as follows:

Category A (self-employed):
  • Individuals intending to set up an agricultural business in Cyprus
  • Possession of land for business operations or an authorization to acquire land
  • Have up to CY£ 250,000 as capital.
Category B (self-employed):
  • Individuals with intentions of owning a mining enterprise in Cyprus
  • Must possess all necessary permits
  • Must have a capital of CY£ 200,000.
Category C (self-employed):
  • Individuals intending to set up a trade business in Cyprus
  • Must possess all necessary permits
  • Must have a capital of CY£ 150,000.
Category D (self-employed):
  • Individuals with intentions of offering professional services in Cyprus
  • Must possess relevant academic or professional certifications
  • Must have sufficient funds to set up a business.
Category E (employed):
  • Individuals that have been offered employment in an establishment in Cyprus.
Category F:
  • Individuals with enough income to afford a decent life in the Republic of Cyprus for themselves and their families.
  •  Must have a minimum of CY£ 5,600 as an annual salary.

A residency application is submitted to the Cypriot Civil Registry and Immigration department or via Police Immigration branches. All necessary paperwork for the category applicable to you must be sent together with the application.
