Top-Ranked Sustainable Hospitality Leader Meliá Hotels International, the Spanish hotel group, has been recognized as the most sustainable company in the tourism sector by TIME magazine’s inaugural “World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024” list. The prestigious list includes 500 leading companies from more than 30 countries, and Meliá Hotels International secured the highest score in the tourism industry worldwide, ranking 114th globally across all industries. The company also positioned itself in 8th place among the 25 Spanish companies featured in the ranking.

Meliá Hotels, top-Ranked Sustainable Hospitality Leader’s sustainability efforts have also been recognized through the internationally acclaimed Ecostars certification, which evaluates and rewards sustainable practices in the hotel industry. Twenty-seven of Meliá’s hotels in Asia have already achieved Ecostars ratings ranging from certified to Silver level, with Meliá Bali and Meliá Purosani Yogyakarta in Indonesia earning the highest rankings in the region.

The Ecostars standard assesses the sustainability of hotels based on factors such as energy consumption, use of green energy, water management, waste management, carbon emissions, and sustainable purchasing.

Meliá’s commitment to sustainability is not only strengthening its reputation but also directly enhancing its business results. Earlier this year, top-ranked Sustainable Hospitality Leader Meliá Hotels was recognized as one of the top-performing hotel companies globally in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2024, ranking third and becoming the first European-origin hotel company to be included in the prestigious ranking. The Sustainability Yearbook 2024 was based on the 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment, an annual evaluation of companies’ sustainability practices, which covers over 9,400 companies from around the world.
