Sir Keir Starmer has strongly criticised Reform UK’s proposal to abolish indefinite leave to remain (ILR), labelling it as both “racist” and “immoral.” The policy, unveiled by party leader Nigel Farage last week, could lead to the deportation of hundreds of thousands of individuals legally residing in the UK. Under the proposed reforms, migrants who have already secured ILR would face new reapplication requirements under stricter rules, effectively removing a status that currently grants them extended rights, access to benefits, and the ability to live and work without restrictions.
