Botswana artefacts return is making headlines as Brighton & Hove Museums prepares to transfer 45 cultural items back to Botswana. This initiative marks a groundbreaking return from a UK museum, following a 2022 repatriation request from the Khama III Memorial Museum located in Serowe. The items being returned encompass a variety of clothing, accessories, hunting tools, and household goods collected by Rev William Charles Willoughby in the 1890s. According to Portia Tremlett, curator at Brighton & Hove Museums, “This repatriation signifies a critical milestone in reconnecting these artefacts with the communities, histories, and knowledge systems that give them their significance.”
