By Making A Bold Step, VSU Scholarships Raises Funds

The beloved dance competition at Valdosta State University is preparing for another season of creating memories and supporting dance, theatre, and music as VSU scholarships raises funds.

On Saturday, March 23, at 6 PM, V.S.U.’s Dancing with the Valdosta Stars 2024 will return to the James H. Rainwater Conference Centre.

About The VSU Scholarships

In an effort to foster community ties and raise money for college scholarships, the Music Scholarship Board and Golden Circle Scholarship and Support Fund Board are organizing this event.

Admission costs $125 per person or $1,200 for a table that can seat ten. There are also sponsorship and V.I.P. tables for sale. A $125 token will be given to each audience member to place in the vote box of their favorite pair during the competition.

More votes can be cast online or by depositing cash or checks into the ballot box of a favorite pair present at the event. On the day of the competition, online voting closes at noon.

Eight couples, each consisting of a local “star” and a local “pro,” will compete for the Audience Favourite Award and contribute to funding scholarships for dance, theatre, and music.

Pairs competing in Dancing with the Valdosta Stars 2024:

• Mikki Hudson, proprietor of Jessie’s Eats and Treats, dancing with Joe Mason, associate professor of theatre at V.S.U.

• Valdosta resident Dean Brooks is a devoted booster of V.S.U. Athletics and the College of the Arts, dancing with Colombian musical theatre student Nemo Rico

• Al Leyva, owner of Al Leyva Construction, and registered nurse Suzie Puckett from S.G.M.C. Health’s Smith Northview Campus dancing together

• Laura Walker, a lifelong supporter of the V.S.U. College of the Arts and an alumni of the university, dancing with Trey Harrell, an Opa-locka, Florida student studying musical theatre

• Tim Goins, a performing arts manager and drama and dance instructor at Brooks County High School, dancing with Margaret Anne Cosper, a V.S.U. Adjunct dance faculty member

• V.S.U. athletics director Herb Reinhardt dancing with Assistant Professor of Dance Melissa Pihos

• Owner of The Cody Store Cody Radney, dancing with V.S.U. Adjunct dance faculty member Blair Anderson

• Macon, Georgia, musical theatre student Elinor Fenimor is dancing with Lowndes County Board of Commissioners chairman Bill Slaughter.

Since its inception in 2012, Dancing with the Valdosta Stars has generated nearly $400,000 for scholarships.
