The Women in STEM Awards in the UK–Thailand initiative aim to honor and uplift exceptional early to mid-career researchers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) who have shown excellence in research, leadership, and a commitment to enhancing collaboration between the UK and Thailand. This initiative is organized by the British Embassy in Bangkok, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). It supports stronger research, innovation, and interpersonal ties between the UK and Thailand while championing women's leadership and visibility in STEM fields. The Women in STEM Awards also provide funding for a one-week trip to the UK for female researchers from Thailand, fostering further STEM collaboration. Eligible candidates for this opportunity include women researchers currently or previously awarded Thailand Research Fund scholarships who meet specific criteria: identifying as women, possessing Thai nationality, being early to mid-career full-time researchers within 15 years of obtaining their PhD, working in a STEM-related area, and preferably holding experience in collaboration with the UK in academia, research, innovation, policy, or professional sectors. Selected applicants need to secure the appropriate visas to enter the UK before their travel; failure to do so will result in cancellation of the award. The visits must be completed by February 15, 2027, with all receipts submitted by February 28, 2027. Applications are open to women across all disciplines in STEM. Further information regarding the funding amount and eligible expenses will be communicated to successful applicants. Grants can go up to £3,000 and will be issued directly to an individual account on a reimbursement basis, necessitating the submission of original receipts. Eligible expenses cover roundtrip economy airfare to the UK, UK visa fees (standard service only), living expenses, travel insurance, accommodation, local transport, and related costs like laboratory fees or class attendance. Any costs beyond the identified expenses are the responsibility of the award recipients. Award holders must also secure adequate insurance to mitigate risks associated with traveling abroad. The British Embassy Bangkok will not be accountable for any such risks or incurred costs. Please note that terms and conditions may change without prior notice. Important dates include: Applications open on May 22, 2026, and close on June 22, 2026. Assessment starts on June 22, results are announced on July 3, and the award ceremony takes place on July 17 in Bangkok (attendance is mandatory). Plans for the visit must be confirmed by December 1, 2026. Visits must conclude by February 15, 2027, and receipts should be submitted by February 28, 2027. A visit report is due by March 15, 2027. Applications must be submitted via the online application form by June 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM Thailand time. Submissions via email or letter will not be accepted. Selection criteria focus on the impact in STEM (including contributions to knowledge creation, skill development, technological advancements, sustainability, or evidence-based decision-making), support for women's leadership in STEM, proven collaboration between Thailand and the UK, and a travel plan that fosters sustainable research and educational partnerships that benefit both nations. The British Embassy Bangkok will utilize application information for processing and managing the awards. They may share this information with MHESI and UK Government partners for evaluation and monitoring.
