The Fordingbridge Three Court Appeal has been initiated by the Attorney General, who has decided to refer their cases to the Court of Appeal. After a thorough evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the Fordingbridge Three, the Attorney General concluded that a referral to the Court of Appeal was necessary. In response to numerous requests for a review of the sentences, the Attorney General’s Office secured all pertinent documents related to the case. This documentation included details about the offenses, judicial findings, and applicable sentencing guidelines, all of which were meticulously assessed. Under the Unduly Lenient Scheme, a referral can be made only when a sentence is deemed not just lenient, but potentially unduly lenient. The Court of Appeal will now assess whether the sentence given was indeed unduly lenient and will determine if there is a need to enhance the current sentence. Attorney General Richard Hermer KC stated, "There has understandably been a huge amount of public interest and concern regarding this horrific case. I instructed my team to expedite this process so I could make a swift decision, aiding in bringing closure to the victims and their families. The compelling personal testimonies reveal that these girls have shown tremendous bravery by coming forward. In our country, there exists an alarming incidence of violence against women and girls, and this government is committed to taking decisive action to ensure that all women and girls can feel safe and confident in the justice system."
