Meet the New Head of Joint Intelligence Organisation

Head of the Joint Intelligence Organisation Adrian Bird CB has been appointed by the Cabinet Secretary, with the Prime Minister's approval, to lead the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). Adrian is set to succeed Dame Madeleine Alessandri DCB, CMG, who is stepping away from the position after three years of service. Currently serving as the Chief of Defence Intelligence at the Ministry of Defence, Adrian Bird has accumulated significant experience in senior roles at the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ). His extensive expertise will greatly benefit the Joint Intelligence Organisation as he steps into this new leadership role. In his capacity as head of the Joint Intelligence Organisation, Adrian will guide a multidisciplinary team of specialists, providing real-time security assessments and strategic advice to Ministers and the Prime Minister. His leadership will also play a vital role in shaping government policies aimed at maintaining national security. Cabinet Secretary Dame Antonia Romeo expressed her enthusiasm regarding Adrian's appointment, commending his comprehensive background in national security and fitness for the role. She took the opportunity to recognize Dame Madeleine Alessandri for her leadership contributions during her term and wished her a fulfilling retirement. Upon his appointment, Adrian Bird remarked that it is a privilege to assume the role of Joint Intelligence Organisation leader.
