When considering things to do in Nairobi, this park offers a unique experience where you can easily transition from the bustling urban setting to an incredible wildlife haven.

Getting there is a breeze, whether you fancy a private ride or join the public safari squad straight from the capital. But here’s the real deal: for the ultimate jungle jaunt, buckle up for a guided game drive – it’s like a Kenyan blockbuster unfolding before your eyes.

2. Visit the Adventurous Nairobi Elephant Sanctuary

Welcome to the Nairobi Nursery, aka the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage – where pachyderm cuteness meets city vibes! This place is not just an attraction; it’s a haven for adorable orphaned elephants getting ready for their wild adventures.

Embarking on a day trip from Nairobi? Well, buckle up because visiting the Elephant Sanctuary is a blast! Just a 25-minute taxi ride from the city center, it’s practically a hop, skip, and a trumpet-jump away.

Now, here’s the scoop – there’s a small entrance fee/donation of 1500 shillings ($15), but trust me, it’s the best fifteen bucks you’ll ever spend. Why? Because between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm, the magic happens! The baby elephants strut their stuff in a feeding area, putting on a show that’ll make your heart do a happy jig.

But wait, there’s more! Wanna maximize the fun? Jump on an organized tour. You not only get to hang out with the pachyderm crew but also swing by the nearby Giraffe Center. It’s like a two-for-one deal – double the wildlife charm, double the laughs! So, when crafting your list of things to do in Nairobi, make sure the Nairobi Nursery is right up there for a dose of elephantastic joy!

3. Experience Kenyan Culture at the Bomas of Kenya

Get ready to dive headfirst into the vibrant tapestry of Kenya’s cultural kaleidoscope with a trip from Nairobi to the Bomas of Kenya – a village that’s like the United Nations of culture, showcasing elements from all 42 of Kenya’s ethnic groups! It’s not just a tour; it’s a cultural extravaganza.

Picture this: strolling through the Bomas village with a guide who’s practically the cultural GPS, navigating you through the essence of Kenyan life. But wait, there’s more fun waiting for you! Traditional performances in dance, music, and storytelling are on the menu, serving up a delightful dish of Kenyan awesomeness. It’s like hitting the cultural jackpot!

The Bomas of Kenya isn’t just a tourist attraction; it’s a cultural theme park, and guess what? It’s just a stone’s throw away from Nairobi, making it the perfect pitstop for a day trip.

If you’re itching to unravel the secrets of Kenyan communities and their heritage, the Bomas of Kenya is your golden ticket. And here’s the kicker – even locals like me can’t resist its allure. It’s like peeking into another way of life, a cultural adventure right in our backyard.

On this rollercoaster of a tour, you’ll not only witness Kenyan diversity through traditional dances but also get a taste of the mouthwatering local cuisine and feast your eyes on vernacular architecture that’s basically Instagram gold. So, when pondering on things to do in Nairobi, make sure Bomas of Kenya is on your list for a cultural joyride like no other!

4. Visit the Ultimate Giraffe Centre

If you’re on the lookout for the ultimate giraffe encounter, look no further – The Giraffe Centre is the Giraffe Wonderland you’ve been dreaming of! Get ready for a hands-on giraffe party where you can feed and feel these majestic creatures up close. Sure, the bridge might play host to a giraffe fan club, but fear not! With a dash of patience and a sprinkle of wait, you’ll be rewarded with a lifetime-worthy experience.

Brought to you by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW), The Giraffe Centre isn’t just a place; it’s a conservation, education, and giraffe-celebration center, specifically for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Open daily between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, including weekends and public holidays, it’s a giraffe extravaganza waiting to happen.

Now, here’s the real treat – an elevated platform where you can hand-feed the giraffes. Trust me; it’s a favorite activity even among friends.

Looking for a day trip that’s a wild ride? The Giraffe Centre is a star player in Nairobi’s wildlife experiences lineup, joining the ranks of Nairobi National Park, the Elephant Sanctuary, and the Karen Blixen Museum. It’s like a blockbuster.

5. Shopping Escapade at the Vibrant Gikomba and Maasai Markets

Embark on a shopping escapade at the vibrant Gikomba and Maasai Markets – where Nairobi’s lively spirit and a treasure trove of goods collide!

Let’s start with the Maasai Market, Nairobi’s open-air extravaganza that pops up in different locations throughout the week. Travelers flock here on Saturdays and Sundays, transforming the city center (specifically, the high court parking lot) into a shopper’s paradise.

Brace yourself for a visual feast of paintings, beads, jewelry, fabrics, and wood carvings – the perfect hunting ground for gifts and keepsakes. And hey, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try your hand at bargaining with the locals. Need more excitement? Don’t forget to check out the alternative City Market, open daily for your shopping pleasure.

Now, shifting gears to Gikomba – a sprawling marketplace on the city’s outskirts, boasting one of Kenya’s largest markets. Clothing, accessories, and an array of items await, but fair warning, it’s so vast you might need a seasoned navigator.

I’ve certainly gotten lost every time I’ve visited, adding a dash of thrill to the adventure. To conquer this market maze, bring a savvy guide along – someone who knows the ins and outs, helping you navigate the stalls without straying off course.

So, when planning your Nairobi shopping spree, make Gikomba and Maasai Markets your top destinations, where every wrong turn is a chance for a new discovery!

6. Thrilling Ziplining Escapade Over The Lush Jungle of Ngong Hills

An experience that promises both excitement and breathtaking views! This adrenaline-packed journey includes convenient round-trip transfers from your hotel. Picture yourself strapped to a harness, soaring gracefully from one end to another, taking in the stunning scenery along the way.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! At the top of these emerald-green hills, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley and Nairobi in the distance. Only a short drive from the city, Ngong Hills also harbor a diverse range of wildlife.

Nestled a few kilometers from Ngong Town, the Ngong Hills emerge as a top-notch destination near Nairobi. Offering an exhilarating day hike, these hills provide unparalleled vistas of the great rift valley.

Having called Nairobi home for as long as I can remember, Ngong Hills has always been a go-to destination in my book. The seven hills, spanning from the Ngong Forest Gate to Kona Baridi, will not only test your fitness level but also reward you with an unforgettable experience.

Fear not, solo travelers and groups alike, as Ngong Hills is devoid of wild animals, ensuring a safe and enjoyable trek. The forest gates swing open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the rates are pocket-friendly. Just a heads up, though – at Ngong Hills, it’s Mpesa or card (Visa or MasterCard) only; cash won’t cut it.

To make the most of your Ngong Hills adventure, join a hiking trip. The climb, spanning approximately 5 hours from gate to gate, meanders through open fields and natural forest trails, making every step a story and every view a masterpiece!
